Magnificent proof impression from a probably unfinished plate. Some plate tone. Slightly stained but with unpressed platemark. Old inscription on the lower margin, dated and signed: “nach Overbeck gestochen von Barth 1817.” [Engraved after Overbeck by Barth] (see Unter Glas und Rahmen, Exh. Cat. Mainz 1993/94, cat. no. 40, with illustration).

Exceedingly rare.

The engraving is an unfinished, partial reproduction of a drawing by Overbeck of 1810 (Howitt II, p. 401).
