Study of trees
Heinrich Franz Dreber
1822 Dresden - Rome 1875
Pen and light brown ink over pencil. Size of sheet: 22.1 x 14.5 cm.
A strong early work comparable to the drawing Buchenstämme, 1841 (see Richard Schöne, Heinrich Dreber, Berlin 1940, cat. no. 7). The drawing was made during the summer of 1841 in Dresden and shows the influence of his friend and teacher Adrian Ludwig Richter. Dreber moved to Rome in 1842 and became one of the most important representatives of the Deutsch-Römer.
The two trees, one gnarled and the other a sapling, also symbolise stages of life.
Bought by a private collection, UK.
