Forest. ca. 1840/41
Heinrich Franz Dreber
1822 Dresden - Rome 1875
Pen in brown ink, over pencil.
A strong, early work, comparable to the drawings Im Rabenauer Grund (Rabenau Valley), 1840 (Schöne, ill. 2) and Buchenwald bei der Mentenschweige (Beech-trees near Mentenschweige), 1841 (Schöne, ill. 3). (Richard Schöne, Heinrich Dreber, Berlin 1940, p. 203, drawings, cat. nos. 27-29, and ill. 2-7).
The drawing was made while Dreber was still in Germany and shows the influence of his friend and teacher Adrian Ludwig Richter. In 1842 Dreber moved to Rome and became one of the most important representatives of the Deutsch-Römer.
Bought within the art trade.
